About Us

Founded in 1974, Riviera United Methodist Preschool (R.U.M.P.) is a developmental preschool for 3 to 5 year-olds where children learn through play.

In our parent participation program, children learn alongside their parents, while siblings are cared for in our on-site nursery. Our school recognizes parents as teachers and sees their involvement in preschool education as a natural stage of development.

At R.U.M.P. children’s positive sense of self is nurtured through a supportive and challenging environment.  Our children are exposed to a wide variety of activities and experiences to foster social, mental and physical skills:

  • Art and craft
  • Building
  • Sensory play
  • Science and nature
  • Music and movement
  • Pretend play
  • Problem solving
  • Number concepts
  • Language development (including A.S.L.)
  • Pre-reading activities
  • Health and fitness
  • Social play with peers

We offer an optional Pre-K Program, held Mondays from 9:30am to 12pm, which provides activities with academic emphasis for children starting Kindergarten the following September. Click here for more details.

R.U.M.P. is licensed by the State of California (#191600895).

Our Philosophy

R.U.M.P. is a developmental preschool where children learn through play. In our parent participation program, our parents learn with their children, learn from each other and exchange ideas with the director.

Our hope is to help children maintain or achieve a positive sense of themselves by nurturing their joy in living. Through the creation of a supportive and challenging environment, we also help our children develop their physical, social and mental skills.

Young children learn through play and because they develop at their own pace we seek to satisfy their needs and foster their growth on an individual basis. Parents and teachers nurture this process best in a relaxed environment, where children are free to choose most of their activities. Since learning is fun and natural for the young child, such guidance comes most often through encouraging the child’s curiosity and extending natural play activities.

Benefits

The benefits of R.U.M.P. are far reaching – for children, parents and the community as a whole. R.U.M.P. helps children develop self-esteem, provides socialization and prepares preschoolers for Kindergarten.
